VW T5 104 TDI campervan - sleeps 4, off grid: solar, lpg and water

Professionally converted by Cambee of Newton Abbot. It is registered as a Motor Caravan (can legally drive at 70mph on dual carriageway) and is a specifically recognised model with Safeguard Insurance.

Vehicle:  This is the more powerful 103bhp turbo diesel engine. Short wheelbase and under 2m tall (including pop-top), it fits in most multi-story car parks, even the underground ones in Monaco. Side windows fitted with VW original privacy glass. These are the sliding windows with a smooth, flush look (unlike cheaper aftermarket ones). Electric front windows and air conditioning. Original radio with Bluetooth module installed.

Furniture:  Handmade using steam-formed birch plywood.  The bespoke design maximises space and fits the van perfectly. Two overhead drop-down lockers, double-door sliding wardrobe (three shelves), sliding-door cupboard (two doors, two shelves), gas/tool locker and under bed storage. We can pack enough for a family of four for a fortnight.

Front driver seat and passenger seats swivel so all campers can sit inside to chat and use the table.

Master bed: Cambee designed and tested rock-and-roll bed with two three-point seat belts and storage for demountable table. The whole bed can be taken out of the van to maximise space when it’s not needed by simply turning four bolts. Sleeps two adults.

Roof bed: SCA 194 high-lift pop-top.  Colour coded to match van.   These are the strongest design of roof (welded, not bolted) with extra height so you can sleep either end.  Wooden slatted bed with fitted mattress which sleeps two adults.  Three windows: one clear plastic, one with ventilation mesh and one with mesh and full opening.

Cooking: Double SMEV hob. Fitted sink with hot and cold water.  12v/240v/LPG fridge-freezer with electronic start and thermostatic control - keeps food fresh even when the van isn’t on a campsite. Careful design means the fridge can be opened even when the bed is set-up.

48l high capacity fresh water tank fitted under van: enough water for three days (or a fortnight of coffee!)

Propex 12l LPG gas tank fitted under van: fill up with gas cheaply at petrol stations across UK and Europe.  We find there’s enough gas to run the fridge and cook for a fortnight.

Propex 2000 gas-powered warm air heater: toasty warm and runs off the same cheap LPG.

Power: 225w roof mounted solar panel (flush-fitted so you can’t see it). This keeps the 100Ah leisure battery charged and also back-charges the van battery. The van always starts, even in the winter after being left parked for weeks.  Zig control unit plus battery monitor, LPG and water level indicators.  Natural warm-white LED lighting throughout.

Hot water: built in storage tank heated by gas or 240v means you can have a warm shower after you’ve had a dip in the sea.  Shower fitted to rear wardrobes for external use

External water and 240v electric connections. Insulated throughout with tri-iso foil panels. Fire extinguisher fitted to wardrobe.

Cambee-Thule roof rack included, so you can easily carry a kayak or roof box. Reimo-rail attachment for connecting awning or driveaway tent.

Serviced every year. New turbo and intercooler fitted 2024, new timing-belt and starter motor fitted 2023. New Propex LPG tank (for hob, heating and fridge/freezer) fitted 2024. Paint work has some scratches, door dents and chips etc, as expected. Front drivers wing has a rust patch approx 1x2inch. Easily repaired if you chose to. Price adjusted to reflect.
